Your essay must show who you are besides your writing skills. Make sure it reflects your personality and characteristics not shown in grades and test scores. Choose a topic that will highlight you, and do start early!
1- Get started by brainstorming
Start by brainstorming your personality traits and strengths. Your essay must showcase your qualities.
2- Let your first draft flow
Based on your notes, create an outline and write your first draft. It does not need to be perfect. Let your ideas flow. You will fix mistakes later on.
3- Develop three essay parts: introduction, body and conclusion
Do not forget to give examples and specific details. Describe a situation and your experience to show your point.
4- Be specific
Focus on how the question relates to your personal qualities and take a specific angle. Don't try to cover many topics. Keep it narrow and personal.
5- Find a creative angle
6- Be honest
Answer the essay question honestly and do not write what you think the admission officers might want to hear.
7- Get feedback
Ask friends, family and teachers to read your essay. Ask them if it sounds like you. Consider their feedback, make changes if appropriate, but keep your voice.
8- Proofread and make corrections
Read your essay carefully to check for spelling and grammar errors.
