The Varsity teams as a whole started the semester at an inconsistent and stumbling pace. The first three games were marked by frustration, where the Giants feel like they should have achieved more points from their respective games.
The first matches of the São Paulo High School League were at Graded, where after two weeks of intense practice, the Giants would encounter the Eagles in four tough affairs. After 36 minutes of fierce battle, The Varsity Boys Soccer Team lead the scoreboard twice but ultimately fell short of a win as the game ended in a two-all draw. The Varsity Boys volleyball team, on the other hand, faced a very strong Eagles team and were defeated by three sets to zero. Likewise, the Girls Volleyball Team was outmatched by the Eagles, losing in the end also by three sets to zero. Finally, the Girls Futsal Team also lost by seven goals to three.
The next set of matches occurred in the following weekend, when the Varsity teams traveled this time to Chapel to face the Trojans. There were mixed feelings on the bus trip on the way back to Campinas: The Varsity Girls Volleyball Team triumphed, winning by three sets to one. The Boys Futsal Team crumbled in the second half, losing twelve to four to a very strong opponent. The Boys Volleyball teams fell agonisingly short of a win, losing on tie-break by three sets to two. The Girls Futsal also left the court with their heads low, losing in the end by twelve goals to one.
The third set of matches was in Campinas, as the Giants hosted their first games of the season. Both the Boys Futsal Team and Girls Volleyball Teams had an afternoon to forget, as the Boys fell short of a comeback losing by ten to five and the girls by three sets to zero. On the other hand, the Boys Volleyball and Girls Futsal teams triumphed, as the Boys won on tie-break by three sets to two and the Girls also by three goals to two.
After the first three games of the semester, all the Varsity Teams find themselves, coincidentally, in the fourth position of the São Paulo High School League. All teams are traveling to Saint Paul’s next Friday, needing a win to put themselves back in contention for the semi-finals.
