Source: Netflix

In just a few weeks, students at EAC will begin to take the semester finals, and many are already studying for them. When these exams are over and school for 2019 finally ends, people will want something rewarding for all the effort they put into this year. For this, the Giant Press team has created a list of the best Netflix series to watch and relax during the holidays:

1. La Casa de Papel

This Netflix Original Series from Spain has caught the attention of millions of people in the past years with its drama and suspense. The story revolves around el Professor, a criminal genius, and his group and how they plan the largest heist in the world at the Casa Nacional de Moneda y Timbre, the money making house of Spain. The series has three seasons already and they are all available on Netflix.

2. Black Mirror

Some people might have had a bad start with Netflix’s Black Mirror (if you watched the “pig” episode you will understand…), but this sci-fi series is much more than that. Each episode of the series is set in a different reality in the future, and uses tense, dramatic, and sometimes crazy plots to show problems and controversies of technology taking over the world. All episodes are unrelated to each other, so you can log into Netflix right now and watch anyone of them.

3. Breaking Bad

Despite not being a Netflix Original, this classic has such a good reputation that it deserves to be on this list. Its plot revolves around Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher from Albuquerque, New Mexico, who suffers from lung cancer and financial problems. Because of this, Walter enters the methamphetamine drug business, completely changing his life and bringing all sorts of issues to his doorstep. “Breaking Bad” has five seasons and was officially ended in 2013, but it is still a series worth checking out.

4. Designated Survivor

When most of the US government is killed in a large event, a designated survivor, a classified member of the cabinet chosen to be secure and isolated at this moment, has to assume presidency and rebuild the country. Netflix's "Designated Survivor" uses this to create a plot of Tom Kirkman, the secretary of urban development who becomes US president after a terrorist attack kills most members of the government during the State of the Union address. In his new job, Kirkman has to deal with insurgencies, war, nuclear threats, assassination attempts, trade deals, and many more problems. The series has 3 seasons, and they are all available on Netflix right now.

5. Star Trek: Discovery

Many people are skeptic when it comes to the Star Trek franchise, but Netflix’s “Star Trek: Discovery” which premiered in 2017 is unlike any of the other series. The series is set in 2256, and revolves around the war between the United Federation and the Klingon Empire, and one of the federation’s ships, the USS Discovery. The producers have made the series feel less ‘nerdy’, and have shaped the new generation of Star Trek to be dynamic, exciting, and original. It has an extremely good rating, and its third season is set to launch in January of 2020.
