FDA Approves First Drug for Peanut Allergies

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the first drug for peanut allergies.

The drug can be used by children between 4 and 17 years old, and is designed to minimize the incidence and severity of the allergic reactions. Even though children will still need to avoid exposure to peanuts, the risk of a reaction will be lessened with the drug, considering some children can suffer harmful effects even with very small amounts.

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2.5% of all American children are allergic to peanuts, making it the most common allergy in the country.
