Tobacco buying age raised to 21

Updated: Feb 1, 2020

It's official! The US has officially raised the tobacco buying age to 21. A new law has been signed by President Donald Trump last week prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21. That includes cigarettes, cigars and e-cigarettes.

The new law marks a major public health achievement for the White House, as a response to the rising levels of youth vaping and an outbreak of vaping-related lung injuries. The administration is still being pressured by health organisations to ban flavours in order to stop the youth e-cigarette epidemic.
